About John K. Williams

Admittedly, there is a lot I do not know about music. I have minimal formal education; my production abilities are completely self-taught. There are holes in my knowledge created by a hyper focus and passion surrounding my own music.

Despite these deficits, I believe I can offer many strengths to the Ramapo program. I possess a natural skill with songwriting, but beyond that I am self-determined, almost to a fault, and inquisitive. I have learned how to produce my own music independently and I have made music that I am proud of. Though this style of learning has been beneficial to me, I believe I will learn more with the direction of educators and with the collaboration of peers.

Over the years, I have honed my production skills, and I have enjoyed seeing how songwriting and music production interplay. Broadening my knowledge of music production has only enhanced my creativity, and the prospect of learning more about production in a formal setting like Ramapo’s is enthralling.

This degree would open many doors for me in both a personal and professional context. A Master’s degree in Creative Music Technology would allow me to build upon the skills I have, while preparing me for new technologies that have arisen in music in this modern age. It would also provide an opportunity to teach Music Technology or to produce the music of others, both of which would each be extremely rewarding prospects for me. Music has been a lifelong passion for me, and I look forward to the opportunity to share and nurture that passion with others.
